Introduction
Listen for that small voice, He will not shout! Listen for that gentle knock; let Him come in, and remember, whom He bids, He enables.
Ecclesiastes 5: 2: Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.
Proverbs 2: 1 - 5: My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding - indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
Psalms 19: 1 - 3: Psalms chapter 19, verses 1 to 3: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.
Isaiah 55: 2 - 3: Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.
I Samuel 3: 10: The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
John 10: 27: My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
James 1: 19 - 20: My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
God is a personal God, He may want to speak to you in a particular way, for example his guidance may come in a quiet, small voice; often requiring silence and intentional listening on our part to perceive amidst life's noises.
