Welling Seventh Day Adventist Church

Bible Verses for week commencing:  3 December 2023

Introduction

When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask Him, “Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?”

Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see; The blind received sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.”

“Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me.”

As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.”

Matthew 11:2-7; 9, 10.

 I Am

Sunday

I Am the bread of life

He who comes to me will never go hungry, and who believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 6:35.

The Lord said to Moses, “I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites.” Tell them, ‘At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread.’ “Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.”

Exodus 16:11,12

Monday

I Am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

John 8:12.

The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.

Psalm 119:130

Tuesday

I Am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.

He will come in and go out, and find pasture.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10:9-10

They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love.

Psalm 107:18-21.

Wednesday

I Am the good shepherd.

The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

John 10:11

See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and his arm rules for

Him. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.

He tends his flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Isaiah 40:10-11

Thursday

I Am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

John 11:25,26

But your dead will live; their bodies will rise.

You who dwell in the dust, wake up and shout for joy. Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.

Isaiah 26:19.

Friday

I Am the way and the truth and the life, No-one comes to the Father except through me.

If you already knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen Him.”

John 14:6,7.

The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live. So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.

Numbers 21:8,9.

Saturday

I Am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

John 15:5.

I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine?

Jeremiah 2:21.

Reflection

Thank you Lord God for sending your Word, the Communicator, your Son; into this world to tell us of your plan to make us wholly thine. The words of life, prophets and types, are designed by God to point believers, in every generation, to Jesus Christ for deliverance from the consequences of sin: death.

Amen.
