Welling Seventh Day Adventist Church

Bible Verses for week commencing Sunday, 2 June 2024.

Theme

The Father’s love for his children (daughters and sons).

Introduction

The “pursuing love”, unprompted, undeserved, and freely  given, of the Father, is expressed in the Word, the Son, dying for us.

Sunday

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son. Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.

Genesis 22:2.

Monday

I will proclaim the decree of the Lord: He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.

Psalm 2:7.

Tuesday

Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him and he will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.

Isaiah 42:1-3.

Wednesday

He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worship him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Daniel 7:14.

Thursday

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1.

Friday

I and the Father are one.

John 10:30.

Saturday

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19.

What manner of love is this! It is the love of the Father and Son for their family contrasted with the deception of the accuser of the brethren.

Henceforth, let us no longer picture Jesus (the Word) as the good “guy” who must convince the fear-inducing Father to show us mercy. The reality is this: The Father desires to restore the loving relationship he had with his “creatures”, hence, he sends his Son to bring us back. This unmerited love of the Father and Son for us illuminates our dark and undeserving condition.

(See 1 John 3:1 and also 1 John 4:9-10).

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glory me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

John 17:3-5.
