Good day
“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous.” 1 Peter 3:8
In his letter, Peter calls believers to a life of unity, compassion, love and a life marked by genuine courtesy. True Christian courtesy is more than polite words or social etiquette. It is the outward expression of an inward grace, flowing from a heart transformed by the love of Christ.
When we deal with others, we are to remember that they are “of like passions with ourselves,” experiencing the same weaknesses and fighting similar battles with temptation. Every person we meet carries struggles we cannot always see. A kind word, a gracious act, or even a respectful tone can be the encouragement that keeps them pressing forward in integrity.
Christian courtesy unites justice and kindness, strength and gentleness. It is not weakness but a reflection of Christ’s character, justice balanced with mercy, principle softened with love. It is the grace that gives “the finest touches and most graceful charms” to a life dedicated to God.
Abraham offers us a powerful example of this spirit. When conflict arose between his herdsmen and Lot’s, he humbly offered his younger relative the first choice of land. Genesis 13:8–9. He welcomed the heavenly messengers to his tent with eagerness and hospitality. Genesis 18:1–8. Even in grief, he bowed respectfully before the sons of Heth to purchase a burial place for Sarah. Genesis 23:7. Abraham’s courtesy was not mere custom; it flowed from a heart filled with reverence for God and respect for others.
Today, our words and actions can reflect the same spirit. Courtesy in the workplace, kindness in the home, gentleness with strangers, these are the daily demonstrations of Christ’s love.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to see others as You see them—beloved, struggling, and in need of grace. Help me to speak with kindness, act with humility, and carry myself with true courtesy. May my life reflect Your love and bring peace to those around me. Amen.
Have a Christ centred day.
