Space for Faith

In today’s society, as Christians, it is easy to unknowingly carry ourselves in a way that does not reflect our belief in God’s promises, His power over our lives, or the future He holds for us.
Here’s an example. A Christian knows that God is their provider And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19 yet when you speak to them, they express that they’re losing sleep. They’re constantly speaking words of lack, worry, and hopelessness because of their situation, and it’s taking a great toll on them mentally and even physically. We pray, yet panic. We say we trust God, yet lose sleep over outcomes we cannot control. Our behaviour quietly contradicts our belief.
The Bible reminds us that our words carry weight. Death and life are in the power of the tongue Proverbs 18:21, NKJV. What we believe internally often reveals itself through our speech and our actions. We may know God’s Word intellectually, yet live as though it is not true for us personally.
Scripture is clear that faith and fear cannot coexist peacefully. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind 2 Timothy 1:7. When fear takes residence in our hearts, it occupies space that was designed and is reserved for faith! Space that belongs to trusting God fully. Holding on to fear limits what faith is meant to do.
Hebrews 11:6 tells us, But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Knowing what God can do is not enough; belief is the gateway through which His promises come to life in us.
Imagine a racing car sitting at a red light. The car is powerful, fully equipped, and ready to go. That car is everything God has promised and prepared for you. The red light is fear (i.e. hesitation, doubt, and unbelief). As long as that light remains red, the car cannot move, no matter how powerful it is. Fear is holding you back from experiencing some of God’s greatest riches and promises spoken over our lives.
The moment fear is released and faith takes its rightful place, the light turns green and the car begins to move! This doesn’t mean everything changes instantly or according to our timeline, but it does mean that God, the one who sees the full picture, the roads ahead, and the destination, can take the driver’s seat, because that’s what faith allows him to do. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths
Proverbs 3:5–6.
Even when the physical reality looks discouraging, we are reminded that God is always working in the unseen. In the spiritual realm, God is aligning, preparing, and moving on our behalf. “For we walk by faith, not by sight” 2 Corinthians 5:7.
So here’s a task for you this week. In your quiet place with God, examine whether fear has been quietly occupying space in your heart that faith should own and pray about it. Ask yourself:
1. What fear is taking up space in my heart that I need to surrender to God?
2. What is one way I can act in faith this week, despite my circumstances?
Let us choose to believe God’s Word over our circumstances, to speak life over ourselves, and to trust that He is working, even when we cannot see it yet.
