There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God.
O Jesus, blessed Redeemer, sent from the heart of God. (From the hymn, Near to the Heart of God)
Do you have a quiet place? How often do you visit it?
Jesus often retreated to a quiet place.
In Matthew 14:13 and 14:23, He stepped away from the crowds to be alone to pray.
Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus, her quiet place.
Do you long for a quiet place where you can step away from the noise and busyness of life? A time to draw strength for the day ahead, to be reassured, and to find joy and peace?
There is comfort in knowing that no one cares for us like Jesus. He is a faithful and precious friend.
No one ever cared for me like Jesus; there’s no other friend so kind as He; no one else could take the sin and darkness from me. O how much He cared for me!
(From the hymn, No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus)
Do you have a quiet place? If not, it doesn’t have to be elaborate. It could be a kitchen table, a comfortable chair, a bench in your garden or a park, or simply a quiet corner. Set aside a time, perhaps tomorrow morning, and simply show up. Jesus is waiting for you.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105.
Let this quiet place become your anchor, the steady centre of your life. Like the Sabbath, it is a gift, a rhythm of pause, rest, reflection, and renewal. God established rest long before we realised how deeply we would need it.
Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and went out to a solitary place to pray, Mark 1:35.
His invitation, given over two thousand years ago, still speaks today: Come away with me.
Won’t you accept the invitation and see the difference it makes in your life?
Like Mary, sit at His feet and discover who He is.
Father God, may we always choose to sit at Your feet and learn from You. Amen.
