Theme: My personal Shepherd.
Introduction
It is nice to know that Jesus is my personal Shepherd; He is also your personal Shepherd.
As we think about the young Shepherd that became an earthly king and penned Psalm 23, let us contemplate the Divine Shepherd King.
David, the young shepherd, was selected by God to shepherd His covenantal people.
Trust.
Ezekiel 34: 14: I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.
Protector.
Psalm 5: 8: Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies— make your way straight before me.
Peace.
Isaiah 43: 2: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Provider.
Psalm 16: 5: LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.
Anointed with oil.
Psalm 92: 10: You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured on me. My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.
Eternal Inheritance.
Ephesians 1: 11 - 14: In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of His glory.
My “Declaration of Dependence.” Thank you LORD, my God, for being my Divine Shepherd and supplying all my needs. Amen.
