Isaiah 9:1-2: Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honour Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan - The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

Theme: Capernaum: Cross Road to the Gentile World (e.g., Africa, Asia, Europe).
Introduction
Capernaum is on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee; this location is significant for two main reasons. Firstly, it gave Jesus access to the villages around this lake. Secondly, Capernaum is on the Via Maris (Way of the Sea), the main roads connecting Africa to Asia and Europe and, thus connecting the Gentile world. Hence the potential of Capernaum being used as the base from which the teachings of Jesus the Christ could spread to the entire world.
Matthew 4:18-20: As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed Him.
Matthew 4:21-22: Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed Him.
Matthew 4:23-25: Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about Him spread all over Syria, and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralysed, and He healed them. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across Jordan followed Him.
Matthew 9:1: Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Take heart, son, your sins are forgiven.”
Matthew 11:20-24: Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of Judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
2 Timothy 3:16: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Capernaum was well positioned, Christ taught there and He carried out many miracles and supernatural things there; hence a lot was expected of “Jesus’ Town.” The more knowledge, inspired wisdom and truth that you have been blessed with, the better positioned you are to help others both spiritually and physically!
