Welling Seventh Day Adventist Church

Bible verses for week commencing Sunday, 14 January 2024.

Introduction

David had seven brothers and two sisters. David was flawed, sinful, but he loved God and God loved him. He. repented of his sins. He submitted to God.

David was a musician, psalmist; he was compassionate, courageous and cared for his parents (illustrated by: From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, “would you let my father and mother come and stay with you until I learn what God will do for me?” So he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him as long as David was in the stronghold.

(1 Samuel 22:3-4)).

Furthermore David was committed to God, and this shepherd and king was a prophet and an ancestor of Jesus.

It is appropriate that God

inspired David; approximately 1000 BC; to write Psalm 22, a psalm about the Messiah.

Theme

David loved God and God loved him.

In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

(Psalm 22:4-5).

Monday

All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him, since he delights in him.

(Psalm 22:7-8).

Tuesday

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me.

 (Psalm 22:15).

Wednesday

Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.

(Psalm 22:16).

Thursday

I can count all my bones, people stare and gloat over me.

(Psalm 22:17).

Friday

They divide my garments among them and cast lots (gamble) for my clothing.

(Psalm 22:18).

Saturday

All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him. For dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.

They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn – for he has done it.

(Psalm 22: 27-28 and 30).

Conclusion

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning.”

Yes, our LORD, was at this moment experiencing ultimate pain and separation from God; this separation of Son from Father is the consequence of sin.

However, there is

hope in the promise of God’s deliverance. This prophetic, Messianic Psalm: Psalm 22, shows us Jesus’ dependence upon God, even when the weight of the sin of the world caused his bones to be dislocated and his heart to fail.

To depend on God, trust in his love, and accept his pardon for our sins and eternal life is only possible through the sacrifice of Jesus, the Son of God.
