The Most Perfect Day

Finding God’s Presence in Creation and the Promise of Christ’s Return

When you think about your life, is there a day you would describe as perfect?
Maybe for you, it was your wedding day, when vision and planning came together and everything unfolded exactly as you had hoped, and more.
Or it was the moment you watched your child take their first step or heard them say “mama” or “daddy” for the first time.
It could be the day you climbed to the highest peak of a mountain with your best friend, rewarded by watching the sun rise awakening the world and proclaiming a brand-new day. In that moment, you celebrated by giving thanks to God for creation, knowing you are part of that miracle.
Or your perfect day was the day you committed your life to God.
When I think of my perfect day, the image that comes to mind is walking beside the seashore.
I pause every now and then to look as far as my eyes can see, marvelling at how impressive and magnificent God’s creation truly is. I stand for a while, mesmerized, watching the progress of a wave as it moves closer to the shore, until it finally washes onto the sand and retreats again, leaving behind evidence that it was there, a beautiful shell, or a small crab scrambling to hide beneath the surface.
As I continue walking, I notice a tiny boat on the horizon, riding the waves with determination as it makes its way toward its destination. As it comes closer, what once seemed small is revealed to be a great ship. I find myself wondering what cargo it carries and where it is headed.
Then I turn my attention to the birds that have been trying to catch my eye. They hover over the water, watching patiently, until they spot their food. Suddenly they dive heads first, legs in the air and emerge moments later victorious. I watch them for a while, and my thoughts turn again to God the Creator and the Genesis account of creation, where God made everything according to its kind.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Matthew 6:26
The sea has a magnetic pull for me, a quiet, drawing toward God.
So, God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27
The world is no longer as pristine as it was at creation thousands of years ago yet glimpses of beauty and harmony remain. They can be seen in the changing seasons. Springtime, especially, symbolizes new life and renewal.
See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come; the cooing of doves is heard in our land.
Song of Solomon 2:11–12
It is in moments like these that I am reminded of a promise Jesus made, a promise Christians eagerly await: His return.
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:2–3
That day, my friends, will be the most perfect day of all.
A day of celebration.
Father, Good I pray that we will remain faithful until that glorious day. Amen
