Consider the statement, “O the overwhelming, never ending. reckless love of God,” in light of how we love.
We often love because of what we can get in return.
We love those we are aligned with, those of stature or position.
We love because of who we know and where that person stands in society or a social setting.
We love because we live among people whom, by association, we say we love.
Our love is conditional and very fragile. But when we contrast it with the love of God, we see just how unmatched His love truly is.
As the Lord said in Jeremiah 31:3,
“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.”
To show how extraordinary God’s love is, imagine the soldier who held down the hand of Jesus and the other who drove the nails through His hands and feet. Even those soldiers, if they believed and repented, His death was sufficient for them.
We are often calculated and can be cold in our actions, but Jesus shows us that love is unconditional.
Like a mother with a baby that may not be considered beautiful by the world, yet she loves that child with all her heart, so Jesus loves us.
He has no pleasure in our destruction. His desire is that we turn to Him and live.
