This past week has been a difficult one for me. I’ve experienced some health challenges that seemed to spring out of nowhere, and they’ve had a real impact on me, both mentally and physically. I’m currently waiting for an urgent assessment, and I’ve been told it could take at least a month before I’m even offered an appointment. It’s been a stark reminder of how quickly life can change; how one moment things can feel completely normal, and the next, everything can shift. Mobility. Financial stability. The simple freedom to move as you please, to be who you want to be. These are things we should never take for granted.
Waiting is hard. Not knowing is hard. But even in the middle of uncertainty, God is still God. He sees what we cannot see. He knows what is happening, and nothing about our situation catches him by surprise.
I think of the Israelites in the wilderness. After God delivered them from Egypt, he didn’t give them a warehouse of food to last the whole journey. He gave them manna, one day’s portion at a time Exodus 16:4. If they tried to gather extra and keep it overnight, it bred worms and began to stink, except on the day before the Sabbath, when he provided double so they wouldn’t need to gather on his holy day. God was teaching them to trust him daily, not to hoard out of fear or lean on their own provision. It must have felt vulnerable to wake up each morning with nothing stored away, only the promise that he would provide again. But he did. Every single day, for forty years, he did.
That is the same rhythm we’re invited into. Not a stockpile of answers for every fear we might face, but daily bread. Daily strength. Daily grace. Enough for today.
Things do not always unfold the way we hope, but our call is not to control tomorrow. It is to trust God today. He gives us life one day at a time for a reason.
Whatever season you’re in, joy, grief, illness, uncertainty, or waiting, God sees you. He hears you. He cares.
So do not be discouraged by what you cannot control. Surrender it to the One who holds the beginning and the end. Even the things that shake us can still be used by him for a greater purpose.
Today, I am choosing to take life moment by moment, and I encourage you to do the same. Stay close to God. Pray. Love people well. Hold this world loosely, and hold on to the hope we have in him.
