Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
There have been moments in my own life where I prayed about things that felt almost silly to say out loud; the little logistics, the everyday wishes, the quiet desires of my heart. And time and time again, God showed up in those moments, but not always in the way I expected. Sometimes God answered in a way I originally pushed back on, only to find myself grateful it went exactly that way. That’s the thing about trusting someone who sees the whole picture when you can only see the frame.
Scripture reminds us that God’s attention to detail is extraordinary. In Matthew 10:29–31, Jesus tells His disciples that not a single sparrow falls to the ground outside of the Father’s awareness and even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. If God is counting your hairs, He is not too busy for your parking space!
We often understand that God cares about the weightier things, our character, our growth, the fruit He is cultivating within us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22–23), and he absolutely does. But his care does not stop at the spiritual. Psalm 37:4 tells us to Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Notice it doesn’t say the grand desires, the worthy desires, the impressive desires. Just the desires of your heart – all of them!
God is not a God who only shows up for the crises; he is a God who walks with you into the car park, into your morning routine, into the small decisions and quiet moments that make up the fabric of your everyday life. He wants to be involved in all of it.
So the next time you find yourself holding back a prayer because it feels too small or too silly, speak it anyway. He already sees it. He already cares. And more often than you might expect, you will look back and realise he was working in the details all along.
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:8
Prayer: Lord, thank you that you care about every part of my life, not just the big moments, but the small ones too. Help me to trust you with all of it, and to recognise your hand even in the little things. Amen.
