Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.Hebrews 11:1
Faith, at its core, is not wishful thinking, it’s a settled confidence. This verse reminds us that faith lives in the tension between hope and unseen reality. We often want proof before we trust, clarity before we move, and guarantees before we obey. But faith reverses that order.
Think about it: much of life already operates on unseen trust. We trust that tomorrow will come, that relationships will hold, that our efforts will matter. Faith in God deepens that instinct, it anchors our hope not in circumstances, but in His character.
The writer of this verse doesn’t say faith is blind; rather, it sees differently. It looks beyond the visible and temporary, holding onto something eternal and unshakable. When life feels uncertain, faith says, Even here, God is at work. When prayers seem unanswered, faith says, There is more than I can see.
This kind of faith isn’t passive. It moves us to act, to step forward even when the path isn’t fully lit. It’s the courage to obey, to trust, and to persevere.
Reflection:
Where in your life are you waiting to see before you trust? What would it look like to take one step forward in faith today?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust You beyond what I can see. Strengthen my faith when doubts arise, and remind me that Your promises are sure. Teach me to walk confidently, even in uncertainty, knowing that You are faithful. Amen.
