When life’s distractions make God seem distant, rediscover the childlike faith that trusts in his unchanging presence and faithful guidance.
There are seasons in our walk with God where hearing his voice feels so clear. We move with confidence, trusting that he’s leading every step of the way, then life get’s busy. Responsibilities increase, circumstances change, and suddenly it can feel as though God has gone quiet; but the truth is, God hasn’t moved.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
The distance between us when we clearly hear his guidance and when we struggle to sense his presence is often not because he has changed, but because we have. The pressures of life can become so loud that they drown out the gentle voice of God. That’s why it’s so important to keep returning to him, making space for his presence and allowing him to sharpen our discernment.
Jesus gives us a beautiful picture of the kind of faith we’re called to have:
Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3
As a godmother to three gorgeous children (soon to be four!) and coming from a large family, I’m reminded daily of how children trust so freely. They don’t carry tomorrow’s worries or question whether they’ll be cared for, they simply believe they will be. It’s such a beautiful example of the trust our heavenly Father desires from us.
If God has carried you this far, why would that change because your circumstances have changed? Because your job has changed? Because your relationships have changed? God’s faithfulness isn’t dependent on our situation.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5–6
Throughout scripture we see people healed, restored and blessed because they trusted him. Jesus often responded to those he healed by saying, “Your faith has made you well” (Luke 17:19; Mark 5:34). Their trust didn’t earn God’s love, but it demonstrated a heart that believed he was able.
So even when your circumstances don’t seem to reflect God’s promises, don’t let go of your childlike trust. Stay close to him. Spend time in his Word. Listen for his voice. The God who has been faithful in every season of your life will not stop now.
For we live by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7
Today, choose to trust your Father with the confidence of a child. He is with you through every season, and He will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
Prayer:
Father, thank you for your unfailing love and faithfulness. Help me to have childlike trust in you, even when I don’t understand what you’re doing. Quiet the noise around me so I can hear your voice clearly, strengthen my faith, and remind me that you are always with me. May I trust you more each day and follow wherever you lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
