Love Is More Than Word

Featured image

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 (KJV)
Perhaps it is time we pause and carefully reconsider this word we so freely use, love. When a parent says they love their child, a husband his wife, a wife her husband, a friend their companion, or even a mentee their mentor, what are they truly declaring? What is this powerful reality we confidently call love?
We attach many descriptions to it; beautiful, deep, passionate, comforting, unbreakable.
We describe a mother’s love as unconditional, and brotherly love as loyal and steadfast. Young love is called Puppy Love. Some even cry out, I love you! to their favorite celebrity. Yet with all these expressions, have we truly stopped to consider what love really means?
The Word of God gives us clarity. In John 15:13 (KJV), Jesus said, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
And in John 3:16 (KJV), we read, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Here is the truth we must embrace: love is not merely words or feelings, it is sacrifice. It is giving. It is placing others above ourselves.
Unless we are truly willing to give, we cannot fully say that we love.
Have a Christ-centred day.
