Theme Bible Verses For Week Commencing 22 September 2024
Sunday
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.
Isaiah 53:3 (Bible, NIV).
Monday
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
1 John 1:6.
Tuesday
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10.
Wednesday
If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?
Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that.
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Luke 6:32-33, 36.
Thursday
My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:2-3.
Friday
Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Ephesians 5:15-17.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrew 12:1-2.
Saturday
Now those who had been scattered by the persecution in connection with Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, telling the message only to Jews. Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.
News of this reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.
Acts 11:19-24.
Conclusion
Matthew 27:32: On their way out they met a man from Cyrene, Simon by name, and pressed him into service to carry his cross.
(Revised English Bible).
Mark 15:21: A man called Simon, from Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they pressed him into service to carry his cross.
What a honour and a privilege for Simon (the Cyrenian) to help carry the cross of the King of the Universe – the created carrying the cross behind the Creator! God blessed this eye-witness and one of the first Christian Missionaries.
We are engaged in a ceaseless striving against sin. However, we have not resisted sin to the point of violence, bloodshed and death; Jesus Christ, the perfect man, Son of God, did.
